Project Description

Consideration for Poverty Reduction and Cross Cutting Issues
The political and social exclusion along with the widening gap between rich and poor are the primary root causes of the violent conflict and the fragility of democracy in Nepal. Several groups are excluded from the democratic and development mainstream and enjoy little political and economic influence. The project will highlight the importance of a reduction in the centralisation of power and decision-making, which is at present perceived to be in the hands of a few elitists, and will advocate for inclusion of all groups in the decision-making processes. Above all, access to resources, development activities and basic service provisions are in a dire strait. The project will help highlight the wishes and concerns of the marginalised people and underline that these must be taken into account while consolidating democracy, especially at this crucial stage of the democratisation processes in Nepal.
